Clean Planet: How Sustainability Strengthens Your Business
In today’s business world, being environmentally responsible isn’t just a choice—it’s essential. For business leaders, founders, and entrepreneurs, sustainability can build trust, boost credibility, and unlock new opportunities. At Clean Planet, we believe that product stewardship—taking responsibility for the entire lifecycle of the products we use—is not only good for the planet but good for business too.
What Product Stewardship Means to Clean Planet
At Clean Planet, product stewardship means taking full responsibility for the products we use in our cleaning and property services. From sourcing to disposal, we ensure every step reduces waste and minimises our environmental impact. Our approach is designed to reduce waste, reuse materials, and work with partners who share our sustainability goals.
Starting November 1st, Clean Planet will launch its Sustainable Packaging Programme—an initiative designed to reduce plastic waste by reusing the 150-200 plastic jerrycans shipped to franchisees each month. Instead of disposing of these containers, they will be returned to Clean Planet’s manufacturer, AWS Group, where they will be cleaned, refilled, and reused. Once they’ve been used as many times as is viable, the jerrycans will be recycled by Pact Group, further reducing waste. This initiative marks another important step in Clean Planet’s ongoing journey toward zero waste.
“Our focus has always been on providing high-quality, environmentally responsible services,” says Tony Pattison, Clean Planet’s Chief Executive. “This programme is another step towards our goal of becoming a zero-waste business while still delivering the standards our clients expect.”
Sustainability Builds Trust and Credibility
Businesses that embrace sustainability build deeper trust with clients and partners. Clean Planet’s commitment to reducing waste not only aligns with the values of eco-conscious customers but also opens doors to partnerships with other environmentally led organisations.
“Our clients love knowing we’re taking steps to reduce waste,” says Pam Castillo, Auckland CBD Master Regional Franchise Owner. “It reassures them that we’re not only taking care of their spaces but also doing our part for the environment.”
By adopting responsible practices, your business can gain credibility and attract customers who prioritise sustainability. Partnering with Clean Planet sends a clear message: your business shares these values, strengthening your relationships with clients and partners alike.
Collaborating for Sustainable Solutions
Before launching our Sustainable Packaging Programme, we faced challenges in ensuring that the plastic jerrycans we sent to franchisees were being recycled. Recognising this gap, we partnered with AWS Group to develop a system where these containers could be returned, cleaned, and reused multiple times.
“We’ve always supported sustainability,” says Richard Hanna, Group General Manager at AWS Group. “Partnering with Clean Planet to repurpose these jerrycans was a perfect fit for us. We’re able to clean and reuse the containers several times, significantly cutting down on waste.”
Once the containers have been used to their maximum capacity, Pact Group recycles them, turning the jerrycans into resin that can be used to create new plastic products.
“This process keeps plastics out of landfills and gives them a new life,” explains Elaine Tippett, Sourcing and Logistics Manager at Pact Group. “We’re proud to support Clean Planet’s journey toward zero waste.”
To ensure the logistics of the programme run smoothly, Clean Planet partnered with Post Haste to manage the collection and delivery of used containers back to AWS Group for cleaning and reuse.
“Our close proximity to AWS Group makes the logistics of this process smooth and efficient,” says Mark Goeschl, Business Development Consultant at Post Haste. “It’s exciting to be part of a project that combines practical benefits with environmental responsibility.”
